WOW Wix & Napa Filters & Accessories: FleetFilter Secure Online Store is where its at for good prices on filters and filter bases. There are just about 50% off of the prices you could get them for at Napa. Wow I just read over what I wrote and it really sounds like a commercial. LOL
It's NOT casting sand. Green coolant with the SCA will have "silicate dropout". A lot of folks think it's casting sand, but it's not. Even the G-05 gold stuff will have a little drop out, and it's a hybrid-ELC with a little SCA and ELC in it. Here's what it looks like:
If you stay with green or even gold, then a coolant filter is probably a good idea. If you switch to ELC, it's really not necessary, IMHO.
Switched my gold coolant for the CAT ELC and in the process, installed the Dieselsite system in mine. Here it is installed on the radiator support bracket easy filter changes. My first filter I left in there for about 9 months or so, this is what came out of mine . Casting sand, dropout, whatever it is of the two, I'm trying to keep it out of the cooling system and maybe prolong my waterpumps life just a wee bit more.
If I had the time, I would have put together my own kit. Its simple but living in the middle of nowhere and nothings close plus with the kids activities, Bob's kit made sense for me. Baldwin filters with no charge B-5134(in pic) are great filters and very inexpensive, about 10.00 a filter.
I wasn't aware that the "standard" coolant left deposits in the block?? But I can say with 100% confidence what was in my filter, and that was fine, black, casting media (sand)
is the ford gold good are should i take it out and put something better in? i would say that the sand is to small for casting sand all that we used at work was bigger, only cryo casting had sand that small just my 2 cents.
