4.0 not firing on cyl 1 HELP!

Hi,

I recently installed new plugs and wires on my 04 ranger 4.0L. before i did any of that i had no problems.

first i changed spark plugs...truck was missing out on one cylinder.

so i got new wires (old ones looked bad)...still same problem.

so i started taking out plugs and found the bad one....front of motor on driver side.

i changed out the plug twice...still same problem. the plugs were all clean when removed (no gas or anything)

so i tried resetting the computer by removing battery cables for 10 mins...still same problem.

i then installed a plug tester between the plug and wire...it lights up when truck is running...so i know that fire is being delivered to the plug.

im thinking that cylinder is not getting gas.

i am really starting to get frustrated with this junk truck...nothing but problems ALL THE TIME!

why would changing the plugs cause one cylinder to not run????

The question has to be asked, so don't be offended: are you sure you have the new wires hooked up correctly?

Also, is the CEL on? A persistent misfire should be lighting it up.

yes i am sure i hooked up the wires correctly. I could be wrong (bc i dont have a repair maual for that truck) but it did this before i changed the wires.

the CEL is on...i went to oriellys to have it scanned. they didnt print anything off or tell me the code numbers. i gave the guy the keys he came back and said cyl 4 injector, cyl 6 misfire, and misfire at start up. i asked for a paper and he said he already cleared the codes

i need to search to find a pic of what wires go where from the coil to the cylinders to be sure about the wires.

but i know cyl 4 is not getting fuel. it is getting spark. and there is electricity at the plug-in at the injector

it looks like a real pain in the butt to change the injector...

It sounds to me like the guy who scanned for codes is either clueless, or he was trying to set you up to purchase parts you don't need.

Bring the truck to another store and get the codes read again. Write them down and post them here, and it's very likely you will get some solid feedback to help you fix the problem. Otherwise, your going to have even more people throwing guesses at you.

There won't be a printout. You're gonna have to make a note of the codes yourself. Don't be shy about following the guy outside to your truck and watching him, that's usually how it's done.

and i will have to go to different town in the morning bc i refuse to set foot into my hometome autozone.

btw, i think i know why cyl #6 had a misfire...i went back and pulled the plug to check it and the glass insulation around it was cracked and a little loose. i switched it out with a new one.

cylinder #4 is still clean (just like new)...i am thinking something is wrong with the injector bc there is no fuel in that cylinder.

nevertheless, i will get it scanned tomorrow

It's possible that you dislodged a wire or connector for the injector on that cylinder. Inspect everything carefully. Disconnect & reconnect the plugs for the injectors.

This is someting that you did while changing the plugs. go back over what you did and look for the issue. as posted earlier maybe you pulled the injector wire off.

i realize and appriciate the comment about re-checking....but i have went over and went over everything multiple times. even tried old wires and old plugs.

i also disconnected the plug in for the injector, checked it for electricity (which it does have when truck is running...constant electricity) and reinstalled the plug

i dont have a stethescope to check to see if the injector is clicking or not...but it has to be the injector.

UPDATE....

after replacing #6 plug, and removing battery cables for 10 minutes...

the truck runs fine

so i have no idea what the deal was....i guess the cracked cyl 6 plug was causing cyl 4 to not inject fuel???
