I believe you got a shower because the tranny had so much fluid in it. I don't remember losing a lot of fluid when changing a modulator valve. That was a easy way to get rid of the extra fluid though.
The last C6 I changed the modulator in lost a bunch of fluid as well. Of course, someone has the wrong type vavle in there, and all that held it in place was the o-ring. Amazingly enough, it held it in place for over 5 years, before the valve popped out while driving. That was messy.......
Had it not been my truck, I would never have believed that mod valve could have stayed in the trans for more than 5 years, with the retainer clip on the wrong side of collar.
It was really amazing how much better the trans shifted with the correct mod valve, and having it fully seated.
One more little tip fish, most replacement mod valves for ford's are adjustable. There's usually a slotted fitting inside the vacuum nipple. You can fine tune the shift points with a small flat blade screwdriver.
Turning the adjuster in (clockwise) should result in a later shift, while turning it out (CC) should make it shift a bit sooner.
Earlier shifts tend to make a bit more MPG, and later shifts give a bit better accel and power.
Rogue, funny that you say that! Because i noticed that when i was replacing it.
It at first had me alittle worried cause it didnt look exactly like my old modulator (which was prob the orginal) and i thought it wasn't going to work!
After driving it a bit more it seems that swapping the modulator was the problem. Its starting to shift better. It seems that after driving it a bit and working it in some has helped it for some reason.
