Good Afternoon,
I am hoping someone can help. Iam wondering if a kickdown rod from a 1966-76 Bronco would fit a 1966 f250. My motor is a 352 and tranny is a cruise-o-matic. Iam looking to install one on my truck. If it will not fit ,do you know what will work.
Thanks for all the help in advance.
Mike
+2 on the lokar! I installed one on my fmx tran's because they make so many different
kickdown levers for the old cars and trucks, could not match mine up with the first pick and pull, just gave up and bought a lokar!!...works GREAT!!!, hope this helps?
As I said im pretty sure I do...I would need to look at my collection of goodies...If you have the parts book, let me know the p/n or basic number you need so I can be sure we are talking about one and the same thing.
Are you in need of any other C-O-M specific lines, linkage or fittings ??
Okay... I'm having the same issue with the kickdown rod as l had before with the Street Demon.
Quick catch-up: 66 Galaxie, 352/auto. The factory carburetor has now been replaced with a Holley 4160.
The Holley kit mentioned previously in this thread has been installed, basically a spring and a bracket to give it something to pull against. The kickdown rod extension is installed...
The problem is that the travel of the rod limits the travel of the throttle by about 50%.

What am l doing wrong?
The kickdown rods are specific to each vehicle engine and transmission combination. They don't play well when mixed up. Short of buying a Lokar kickdown kit. Here is a old hot rodder trick to deal with going from a 2bbl to a 4 bbl. modify the rod so it is a little longer and adjustable.

The rod is long enough to reach the pin (peg, whatever) with the extension attached. At that point it is fully forward. When l cycle the throttle, it immediately moves the rod rearward until it can no longer move... that's at about 50% of the throttle lever's full movement.
Some makers, notably Chrysler, use a slotted lever so the rod doesn't move until you floor the gas pedal. The attachment peg on the throttle lever moves freely in the slot until it reaches the end, then it moves the rod rearward for the downshift.
The Ford rod has no such provision and (the way l have it set up now... obviously incorrectly) the rod is attatched directly to the throttle lever and begins rearward movement immediately.
I should have a good amount of throttle movement without the rod ever moving, correct? Then when l feed 'er the beans (floor the pedal), the rod moves rearward and get my downshift.... l haven't radically altered anything, but l'm definitely missing something.
I'll take a closer look at the original 4100's throttle linkage this weekend... hopefully there's something there that will show me what I'm doing wrong..
ETA: l just realized that l made my post in the wrong thread... Hell, the wrong FORUM. I have 2 old Fords (1 car, 1 truck) and sometimes use the non vehicle-specific subforums here for non vehicle specific questions... the thread l referenced in my first question was in a Galaxie forum. DOH!
