Plugged cat

Anyone ever have a plugged cat? I searched on here and other forums and all I really found was pre-emptive cat-ectomies but not much on them plugging up. Figured I would post my experience for documentation that they do plug up.

I have had my share if issues with this engine, but it seemed to be running decent after the last dealer adventure. Then about a month later, power began decreasing and boost decreasing. The rate of decline was noticable to a week later barely pulling itself up the hill with only 5 psi of boost. Back to dealer (like a horse to its stable), and I await diagnosis.

Guy calls and says its a plugged cat. I said you mean that thing I leave on to not void my factory warrenty? He says yep and we have a new one on order for you. Unfortunately its 1700 bucks and you are 5000 miles out of the emmisions warrenty.

I took it home and gutted it out and had it back in place in one hour. Finally runing good! I hope it last a while.

I cut mine off within 10 minutes of buying my truck. Good thing around here the exhaust shops don't care a bit to do it. When I was stationed in Colorado I took my mustang to an exhaust shop and asked them to cut the cats off and they looked at me like I was a terrorist and told me to get the hell out of their shop.

I wish I would have done it earlier. To those on the fence... if not concerned with warrenty issues, do it. When held up to the light, I could only see about 5 spots of light about the size of a pin head.

I wonder how long it has been hampering performance? Like I said above, the real noticable decline really only took a week, but now that it is done, I am seeing boost levels higher than I ever have. I can now hit 27 psi unloaded. Even when brand new, the thing when only ever get close to 22-25. It really seems to run well now. I hope to see some mileage increase. When the vehicle was new, I could get 18 or 19 and that has declined very steadily down to about 16.5 over the last 4-5 years.

I cleaned mine with carb cleaner and starting getting better mileage and boost levels. However my 4" turbo back is on the way from throughbred diesel so she's about to go bye bye.
