I had the egr and oil cooler blow up and replaced last June while on vacation, truck is an 04. The dealer told me at the time the truck was an early build and out of the five year warrenty. I resently had an oasis report done on the truck and find that its build date was December of 2004, still within the warrenty date. The dealer also performed a couple recall items at the same time. Funny thing is only the warrenty items show up on the oasis report, kinda like they were hiding the egr work from the factory. I still have the $2,000 bill from the dealer that states egr failure. Is there any way I can go back through Ford or the dealer and recoup my money?
Don't you think your dec.2004 build would be a 2005 model? The 2010 model's will be coming out very shortly, so more then likely your 04 truck was built in dec.03 which means no warranty left.
Warranty is 5yr/100k from in-service date. I'd def. have a chat with the SM if you were indeed within the 5/100. My 04 in-service date is 29 Oct 2003, you can find this at the top of your Oasis report.
Oasis lists the start date as 12/15/03. EGR and oil cooler replace date was 7/01/08. So I would have still been under the 5 years. I'm going to call the dealership where the work was done tomorrow and ask for an explaination. It doesn't make sense to me. Why would they not have turned in the work done to Ford?
If what you say is correct then you would fall into the warranty providing it was under 100,000 miles. You have to go by the date the vehicle was put into service.
Be polite but firm and if they say no, let them know politely that your lawyer will be contacting them and Ford for violation of warranty to be liable for damages and the cost of your lawyer.
I talked to the dealer that did the egr cooler work yesterday with good results. He, (current service manager) said the service writer and service manager that I dealt with a year ago are both gone, so he can't give me a reason why the work wasn't completed under warranty at the time, but said he would contact his Ford representative and should be able to have it worked out and a refund check coming my way in a couple of weeks. He point blank said there was no reason it shouldn't have been covered, kinda gave me the warm and fuzzy's talking with him,, sure hope he doesn't prove me wrong.
I got a call from the service manager yesterday. Ford will cut a check the first week of September and mail directly to me. This has gone much smoother then I would have ever expected. I think I'll still keep my fingers crossed until I have the check in hand. So far I can't say enough nice things about the dealer/service manager.
