I was driving my 99' F250 4x4, 6.9 auto today. I pulled out of a parking lot and noticed a check engine light on.
I also noticed I had no speedo and the shifting was abrupt.
So I had the code read and it is P0500. The funny thing is I stopped and shifted the trans to park and back and it worked again.
But when I stopped at the mailbox and shut it off the speedo quit again. But a quick shift to park and back got it working again.
Doesn't seem like it could be a sensor if shifting the trans from park to drive can suddenly fix the problem.
Any tips?

 

Hmmm. It doesn't seem to be related to my shifting the trans but the actual stopping of the truck. No speedo now and rough shifting.
I am going to the dealer and buy the VSS sensor.
