Transmission woes
-My pickup was parked and hit in the rear axle in January. I had to have the whole axle replaced as well as the leaf spring to frame mounts.
-I finally received the pickup back and now when the trans is in Drive it will not up-shift until the rpms reach 2500 and it is a hard shift.
-Also the speedo does not work now.
-Check engine light also came on with code P0500- vehicle speed sensor.
-I replaced the VSS at the transfercase and the ABS sensor in the rear differential with no change.
-Please help.

The insurance totaled the truck but I wanted to keep it. My buddy's friend replaced the rear end for me.
-Does it seem more electrical than a mechanical issue?
--I wonder if the drive shaft was pushed deep into the T-case and misaligned something.
-I did note the VSS gear was pushed back onto the VSS a bit when i removed it.

So I can spin the old VSS and see if it puts out voltage?
-I am suspecting the inside of the t-case has a problem since the truck was hit in the rear axle so hard.
-Whatever drives the VSS in the T-case may be off kilter

Just checked the VSS on a drill and it puts out voltage.
-Does anyone have a T-case breakdown?

My 92 did similar to yours and it was the connector to the VSS. All I had to do was wiggle it a bit and it was fine. Could be you have an issue with that connector or wiring for it.

I finally got it. I replaced the broken speedo drive gear, but did not have a good picture and being under the truck I did not see the clip that keeps the gear from backing out. I talked with Ken at A & A transmissions in Stockton (he is a beast with manual transmissions/Transfer-cases) and he was exactly correct so am good to go now.
