PSOM Help - P0500 Code

Ok, so I have been having an on and off again P0500 code where the truck will flash O/D light, go into limp mode, and shift like crap. The was just happening every one in a while but now is happening much more often.

When it first started I changed out the VSS with an OEM one to try the easiest thing first. The issue had stopped but now is back. I have also added a 6 position TS Chip which smoothed out shifting 1st - 3rd where it hold the shift longer and makes it really smooth but from 3rd -4th under load it will shift, them slip a high RPM then drop and bog down like it want to hold the ship like in the other gears, hard to explain, I may need to a video.

Now, I took it back to the tranny shop today because the truck kept going into limp mode and the pulled the P0500 code again. They guys is really pointing to the PSOM since the VSS is new, wires look good, no ABS lights (tone ring seems fine otherwise id get ABS) on and cruse control works. I know most people complain of the speedo jumping all over but I only have a very slight wave (3-4mph bounce).

Soooo.... should I try to swap out the PSOM?

Or am I missing something.

I wouldn't call 3-4 MPH "slight". A VSS / tone ring issue won't necessarily turn on the ABS light; it has no way of knowing the difference between a wavering signal and the truck actually speeding up and slowing down. I would consider inspecting the tone ring, and the condition of the diff lube.

What brand of VSS did you install?

I replaced the VVS with a motorcraft one.
The fluid looked like new when I changed the VVS. Can I inspect the tone ring from the VVS hole by spinning the wheels?
