If i find a BBF c6, can I change the bell housing to fit a SBF?

no, ford trans mostly have integral bellhousings. all of the zf's do, and i believe all of the autos do as well.

darn....so would a c4 be able to hold up? or is that mainly a car transmission?

I have never dealt with either transmission. Is there any weird kickdown cables or anything I would have to deal with?

c-4's can be built to handle big power, see em in hopped up mustangs all the time. i don't have any experience with c-4's, but c-6's and c-4's are simple bare bones no computer b/s tranny's. i think the weird kickdown you are talking about is on the aod tranny's, which from what i've heard are junk.

A C4 and a C6 both have kickdown mechanisms - that's how the trans downshifts. All non-electronic automatic transmissions have some kind of kickdown, either cable or mechanical. The AOD is not super strong in stock form but they aren't junk either. It can also be built up to handle lots of power and has overdrive, which is why it's popular in the aftermarket.

i believe what he was talking about was the tv cable, at least that's what i was talking about. and the kickdown only downshifts into "passing gear" for full throttle application. it has nothing to do with regular downshifting

I wish this thread was further along than just plans. Anyhow a little searching should net some sb c-6's. The kickdown is just a simple rod, nothing fancy. The Z-f is a good trans also. Have you considered a NP205 instead. Since your gonna have to modify shafts and crossmembers I would go with that one

Whats the NP205? I wish it was farther along than just plans to trust me. Not having a truck to hop in and drive whenever I want sucks.

205 is a gear driven cast iron t-case. it is the strongest factory case you will find and should definitely be on your list of parts to get. you do sacrifice weight for strength, but it is worth it

Oh, i thought he was talking about transmission. i was kinda wondering...its been a long day. I would much rather be running something like that. So here's the list for a C6 swap.

C6
np205
crossmember
shifter
different driveshafts
tourque converter

heres the zf list
zf
clutch pedal assembly
different driveshafts
slave cylinder
np205
clutch
clutch linkage

Even though the C6 is auto, cant it be manually shifted just by moving the shifter though? so if I need to keep it in a lower gear, i can?

Sorry about all these questions. So far I have owned two automatic vehicles, truck with e4od (which is for sale) and crown vic with AODE. And im not a big fan of either.

you can shift any auto manually, but they won't always hold the gear at higher rpm's, and will upshift. they are sometimes bothersome, but if you want an auto with the control of a manual, look into reverse manual valve body shift kits. they essentially turn your auto into a clutchless manual. you have to shift the gears all the time though, you can't just put it in drive after doing that.

So I got a question. Is there a small block four wheel drive c6? Everything I have been reading showed it as a big block transmission, and the only small block ones were in some sort of special edition mustang?

Man.. where are you getting this info? The AOD was the first overdrive auto for Ford.. in 1/2 ton trucks anyway, and that only showed up in the mid to late 80's, so before that if you had an automatic f150 it had a C6 in it. So yeah.. I'd say there are more SBF C6's kicking around than the big block version.

I happen to have a buddy with a SBF C6 4x4 who also has the 205 transfer-case on his mud buggy. I think hes selling the whole buggy for 2k. I think its a 351w if not a 302
