About a year, give or take, depending on driving conditions.

while searching...the part # is just for the cover according to AFE's site...which filter did you go with???

NVM...found it...$93 huh...holy crap...i think i'll go with the 6637...
David, I paid $99 for my AFE filter shipped to me.

The part number is for the FILTER and clamp, not just a covering. it mounted directly to the intake tube that I had already made for my old paper 6637. pay em now, or pay em later, your still gonna spend about $100 on two 6637s in a year. If you buy a 6637 today, and spend $45 + shipping, and one year from now spend another $45+ shipping, you have equalled the cost of 1 AFE big boost filter. Just wash it out dry it and reinstall.

I like your thinking... I'm gonna go with the AFE when my stock filter goes out. I cleaned it late last year and that stupid indicator keeps telling me it's plugged... I just knocked out the dust and blew it out with a compressor. Or, is that a big no no?

Quick question, bdrummonds:

Where'd you get the cool "Power-Stroke" hood decals, both black and white? I REALLY like them!

Thanks... they look sweet! I'm not gonna bother getting a set until I can get new paint... well, I might buy a set and then put them on later. They look pretty sweet!

So, what kinda sound do you guys get outta you "DIY Filter" setups? I've got a 4" turbo-back already so, I'm set there...

I think I'll try one of those myself. I need more air than even the 6637 passes.

UPDATE: Brandon, i'm getting ready to leave for Dallas to begin a new chapter in my life...i'm going back into truck driving for the big boys...which means Bit Mo' will most likely get sold or will sit for extended periods of time...on that note, how many miles are you driving your truck per year that causes you to need to replace the filter twice???...do you live down a long dirt road or what???...i don't really believe that i would need to change my filter more than once a year, maybe could even stretch it to 2 years the way i drive it now, or course, i don't take mine off road, and mine never sees dirt, mud, or dust...

David, I average 500-700 miles per week daily driving as an outside salesperson. I dont live down a dirt road, but at the time I bought the AFE had been managing a large hunting club down here and was always toting tractors, equipment , and hunters in and out of the fields and woods, so yeah, I could dirty up a 6637 pretty quick.

Good luck on your new adventure, and if your ever near the Gump, give me a holler and we'll do lunch.

I went on eBay and typed powerstroke air filter and found a new airraid filte with clean g kit for $20 shipped. Then I went to the hardware store to buy $3 worth of window foam stuff to seal the loose filter (one major issue with kn filters also) and took a big holesaw and cut a hole in the side of the airbox. I have not been happier with my choice. My oil analasys comes back with super low silicone which I guess means the filter is working well. Also my intake tube to the turbo is super clean with zero fine dust.
I'd do it again.

AFE

Do you have to oil the AFE washable filter like a K&N?

Does eveyone look through the old 6637 to see light to determine if it needs replacing?

Thanks...

Neil

Just curious as to WHY you need to oil the filter? Does it keep out water, or what?

AFE

Are you recommending AFE over K&N because the AFE Pro Dry filter better and will hold up to the suction created a diesel better than a K&N? I searched and couldn't find any other threads on the AFE.

Thanks...

Neil

The oil is what traps the dust. I don't know why they need the oil, might be a good question for AFE or K&N.
