When replacing the diff fluid is the gasket reusable?

And since we are on the subject what oil is recommended? And how much does it need? Also does it need the track lock additive? And does it need it for the front?

As far as the gasket goes, if it not reusable does it use a gasket or does it just use RTV?

Synthetic in the rear-90/145 and traction additive if you have limited slip and no gasket just RTV. Front takes 85/90, no additive and again no gasket. I used Mobil One in the rear and Valvoline in the front

Regards

I just did mine two weeks ago. To fill it to plug level took around 3 quarts IIRC

Don't over fill either ... spec says 3.45 qts & I tried to cram that in there & ignored the "level below the fill hole" spec.

Pinion seal leaked and slung oil everywhere afterwards. I had to pop the fill plug off & take some fluid out until the level was in spec.

Best thing to do is cut some small strips of paper, bend them in a "L" shape, and use these to check the level depth below the fill plug.

If you're going to give advise, make sure you have the correct info. Rear takes 75w-140 synthetic, front takes 80w-90 and most use a 75w-90 synthetic. The rear may or may not need the friction additive, depending on which fluid you use. With Royal Purple and some other high grade synthetics, you don't need the additive. The best advise is to add none, then add half bottle of the modifier at a time if you experience chatter in corners, allowing time for it to work into the clutches before adding more. Spec is around 3.5 quarts, so you'll need to buy 4.

Conventional doesn't stand up to the pressures as well. You could probably get away with a similar weight conventional oil, but it would shorten the service interval. Just do it right the first time and forget about it.
