Question Tachometer reads high when cold

I have a 90 B2 EB when it is cold the tach shows RPMs almost twice as high as they actually are. I am sure it is a loose ground or a wire somewhere because when I hit a bump all of a sudden the tach will jump back to the correct reading and the ignition module has been checked out. I seem to remember something about the TFI module about 9 months ago but that isn't it... Anyone have any clues where I can find the wire problem or whatever is causing this? TIA, Brian

Get a hold of the wiring diagrams for your car and have fun! Me, I'd just mount an aftermarket tach and put a picture of my girlfriend over the stock guage!

Not a bad idea... I'd end up with a more accurate tach and an highly impressed girlfriend . Only problem is she is the main driver of my BII (says it her favorite vehicle EVER and she has owned a bunch...) she would be looking a her own pic most of the time... Thanks, Brian

If she is really impressed it could be good for you. Also, if she is the primary user of the vehicle, it might be more suitable to place a picture of yourself over the old tach. You may want to look into what it would take to remove the factory tach, and place the aftermarket in it's place. Or (because I think the guage cluster is a one piece) maybe drill it out and inset the aftermarket inside it. I don't know, lots of ways to do it.

I'm with you!!! Just something about women! Maybe a little off the subject though! My wife and I have 2 1986 BII EB's and a minivan. I like the way she looks driving the B2 so I'm stuck with the minivan (one of the B2's in a doner car that will sport a 302 next year). My loss? Nope, I get to see her!!!

I totally agree... Few things are as good looking as a brunette driving a nicely done up BII... Today I hit the wheels with Mother's brand chrome polish, used the black tire stuff all the way around, washed the outside and spent an hour "dusting" the new engine... just to look at her drive away on Monday to work! Hook, line, sinker and a 1/4 oz Panther Martin... she has me tied around most of her fingers! Have a great weekend! Brian

I find myself doing the same things, for the same result. Oh well. "Guys are like pound puppies, pet us, feed us and we are as happy as cam be..."
