bad glow plugs

my wait to start light is messed up but the glow plugs still work. my trucks clicks to that is my wts lite (i wait till it starts clickin then start it) i was told it was a timer clicking not the relay although it sounded like the relay

Afterglow is a normal function to help reduce white unburned fuel smoke on startup.
The 86 and earlier system relay was not the problem.
The controller in the rear of the drivers side head is what failed and turned the glow plugs on.
The relay is what you hear clicking.
