this may sound dumb

i have a 352 in my 66 f100 4x4. so heres my question. the 352 is in the same family with the 428 so does that mean that i can bore it out to 428 and put all 428 insides? so it would be the same as a 428 from the factory.

Same type of block, but the cylinders most likely will not take that most boring. You would need to have the block sonic tested to know. I have a 66 F100 4x4 with a 390 HiPro Fairlane engine, great combo, lots of power and good gas milage.

The short answer is not likely. As mentioned the cylinder walls differ in thickness even though externally the blocks are the same. I actually took a 390 (same bore as a 360 which is your block 0.050" oversized) out to the 406/428 bore of 4.13". But that was an early 60s 390HP block which I turned into a 406. I've never seen another one that would go there though.

Not a block that is in good shape, but one that has cylinder wall thick enough to bore out that much and still have anything left. When the walls get to thin, engine will over heat, or the boring bar will cut though the walls.

Many have tried to go out to the 4.13" bore of the 406/428 but most blocks end up like bertha66 said either with overheat problems or a hole in a cylinder wall. They weren't cast to be bored that much.
