I just wanted to tell everyone about my experience with some touchup paint the other day. I have to say it was the best $7 I ever spent on my truck. Being a salvage title, it has alot of smaller scratches and stuff on it. It also had the rust starting below the gas door, and I noticed it was spreading. So I went to the parts store, removed my gas door, and sanded down the rust, and touched it up with some touch up paint, then I went around the truck and got alot of the other scratches in the paint, and my truck (in my eyes at least) looks about 100X better.
I'll tell you that a scratch is alot more noticable when it is a different color than the truck.
What color is your truck? i know that some colors are hard to match. I have a red truck and i went to the ford garage for the motorcraft touchup just so i knew it would match. Its not 100% exact, but its pretty darn close. I also pulled my gas insert out and sanded out all the rust and touched it up, looks pretty good, except for when i took my truck in for body work from an accident and the place blew the touch up paint off the truck with a pressure washer and insisted that they didnt do it, but they ended up touching it up again. (whatever they used match perfect) I also have a painted front bumper and it was all chipped up and it would have taken me a week to touch up all those spots, but then i was in that fender bender and got a new painted front bumper so it was like new, then i went on a cross state trip 2 weeks ago in the snow storm and washed my truck this weekend a found it covered with chips, so i touched some up. Oh well. long story short, yes i have used the red motorcraft touch up paint. Works great and dries fast.
I have a black truck. It shows paint chips and stuff really bad
I feel your pain!!!! Red trucks are a pain as well!
I used to live in a snowy area where they used hot cinders (volcanic rocks for those that do not know) to melt the ice on the snow, and those can have some real bad effects on the paint. I am certainly glad that I have a chrome bumper compared to the PTM one!
I need to spend some time with some touch up paint when I get the time.
I've used the small brush/bottle on body parts (small chips and scratches)and the small spray can on the rear bumper and kick panels of my 06 silver STX with good results on both.
The best touch up paint I have used is from Dr. Color Chips. It is purchased online. Just do a search for it online. You smear it on and it is custom made for your paint code. It has a special solution that you rub on after a few minutes to take off excess paint. it did wonders for chips on hoods and front bumpers. The site has videos and it works!
