i have a question, im lifting my super duty its a 99 f250 SD i want to keep my suspension in the rear just cuz its a more heavy duty suspension, my question is it seems to already have some sort of lift block under the leaf springs would the new lift blocks go ontop or would i remove them,
Your truck should have a stock 2" lift block as part of the rear suspension. As for replacing the stock block, you have to remove it and put in a new spacer. Do not ever stack blocks. Ever. Just don't do it.
To get the lift you want, you'll probably need to do a combo of a few things. A lot of people swear that any block is a bad idea, and will cause axle wrap under acceleration. Since F250s come with a stock 2" block, and F350s come with a stock 4" block, I don't see the problem with using stock setups, but past the 4" size is where axle wrap issues actually do happen pretty easily. Some companies make 5-6" blocks, even as part of lift kits, and I strongly recommend against using blocks that tall. Adding height to the block can not only cause axle wrap, but puts a lot of stress on the ubolts that have to be proportionally longer to hold in a stock block, and can cause lateral stability issues from the leaf pack being further away from the axle pad.
What you really want to look into is an add-a-leaf. You take apart the leaf pack, and put in a new leaf that will add anywhere from 1-2.5 inches of lift. These don't cause any drop in your suspension rating, and actually make the ride stiffer and make the truck squat less under a load.
My recommendation for you is:
If you want 2" lift- 4" stock F350 spacer
4" lift- AAL and F350 spacer
6"+ lift- replacement spring pack
ok that sounds good cuz thats about the size of lift i want, so the add a leaf and 4" stock blocks, one more question, can you put shackles on the rear suspension?
like texastech diesel said never stack blocks, i added a one inch long add a leaf in the rear of my 350 after the front level kit because i dont like the level stance. when towing or hauling i like it level then not *** low. do what he said 2 inch f-350 block, 4 inch 350 block and add a leaf over that go for new springs because even though people tow over six the truck isnt doing what it was made for then its now a big toy
