I picked up a pre owned 2006 f250 6.0L with 27000 miles on it. I have noticed that it shifts a bit rough, I also have a 99 f350 5.4L that shifts smoother. I was wondering if this is normal for being a Diesel. This is the first diesel ive ever owned, so im not sure if thats just how they shift because of all the torque or not. Now the RPM's hardly ever jump when the 06 shifts, but every once and a while shifting into 3rd gear, the rpms will jump a bit. 200 or so rpms at most. Also, sometimes its completely smooth, should I take it back to the dealer and have em check it out? Thanks for the advise.
The first thing to try is resetting the adaptive software. To do that disconnect the negative battery cable from both batteries. Wait a half hour and reconnect them. That might be all it needs to fix it. If not, there is something wrong in the trans. It could be a solenoid or it could be a clutch.
If theres anyway, try drive another 6.0 for a comparison. When I first went from my 01gasser to my 6.0 I did feel the truck shift a little harder especially when cold. Whats tranny fluid look like? smell?
