towing issue

Okay this is what I have going on I was towing a 19ft boat and while towing I got on it and the truck didn't do crap not even a kick down. Now I have had issue with it shift kinda hard but I was told it was the torque converter oh yeah I got 300,000 miles on the truck if I forgot to say that. But this morning driving to working driving I got on it again and nothing wait a bit and tried again and it kicked in so I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the direction I need to go. I'm getting ready to take the cat and muffler off and add the 6637 air filter not looking for the kick *** speed just was to be able to go when I get on the pedal. i dont have slippage or any weird sounds at times the tranny shifts great kinda like a women goes through it mood swings (just kidding didnt mean to offend anyone) any advise would really help thanks

Original tranny with 300000miles? That's really good if it is.

Have you checked the fluid to see what it smells like or if its full?

I'd pull the codes and see if you have any.

I'm not a real tranny guy but just giving some starting points I guess.
