"bullet proof" ?

So I bought my truck (85 F250, 351w, C6, 4x4) January '07 and have had no issues with my transmission (other than only 3 speeds ) but within the last ... oh, about 2 weeks .. I have had it kinda pop out of gear on me about 3-4 times. What has happened is after I'm slowing down (like braking to turn into a parking lot or w/e) I'll step back on the gas and it will just rev the engine for a second like its in neutral, then it kicked back in gear and would go forward. The last time it did it I actually shifted up into neutral then back into drive to get it to go again. Could it be that the bulletproof tranny is just going out? or is there something that somehow got out of adjustment or something?

Sounds like an automatic transmission... Have you checked the fluid level?

Yea, I'd check the fluid level, my truck's C6 does the same thing if it gets low on fluid.

Usually I can just gun the motor just a little and that'll get it to go back in gear...til I can get the level brought back up, of course.

I would check the fluid Rainy, just as the other guys said. Be careful you don't over fill it though, that could cause other problems. Pull the dipstick and look closely at the fluid. It should be bright red, with no metal flakes or anything in it. Smell it too, it should smell just like ATF, open a quart if you need to compare, they should smell the same. If it has a burnt smell you might have other issues.

And as good as the C-6 is, there is no such thing as "bulletproof". Abuse and or lack of regular maintenance will kill anything, no matter how well built it is..

yeah, so its been awhile since I checked back in here. with work, then school midterms, then the snowboarding slopes I go to opened up and that pretty much killed every extra minute of time I had
anyway, I did check the fluid and there wasnt even anything on the dipstick, so I added some fluid up to the full mark and havent had the problem with it since then! even with increased driving going up to the hills a couple times. thanks guys!

I have the same issue, it's nothing more than a fluid level problem.
Check the transmission lines that run to the radiator for leaks, that's where my main leak is coming from, can be easily overlooked.

Be sure to crawl underneath her and find out why she is leaking. It will only get worse the longer you let it go.

i agree with redneck, but most importantly, if you fluid level is correct at idle, dosent that mean your pump is going out/bad if it does that? even though the automatic clutch packs arent affected by lack of fluid (dont lock up) the pump may overheat and kill it. when my c6 blew a line, it just free revved until it pumped enough fluid... well i fried the pump doin it. so i put in a zf
