Could a bad pump cause the washer to not spin out and disable the door lock?
I've had this washer for about 5 years now and it's been a good one. We replaced the timer on it a few months ago and now it's starting to act up again. It stopped spinning the water out, causing the door to remain locked. I took the fornt panel off and wiggled the pump around a bit and it began to work again. My wife is out buying another washer as I type, but I would rather fix the one we have. The pump costs around $60- the new washer (cheaper, top load type- $300).
In short, yes. If it senses the water is still there then it won't release the door. Before you replace the pump, though, just pull it off and see what's jamming it. I've seen bra underwires get stuck in there before-
I'm not really familiar with front load washers, but, on two different top load washers that we've had, there's a 'coupler' that is a 3 finger sort of deal on both the drive side and the motor side, with a rubber coupler that has 6 slots/holes in it, that each of the 'fingers' fit into and absorb the shock of start-up and prevents vibrations.
This rubber coupler will disentegrate over time, and cause the washer to not work.
There POSSIBLY might be the same sort of deal on that front loader.
Well, I have a new washer now.... thanks for the help.
I also have a used front loader for sale... all it needs is a new pump (I think).
I will pull the pump out and see if there's anything jammed in it. It sounded like it might have a bearing going out, too.
I bought a Maytag Neptune set 5 years ago. The washer has been awesome but the dryer has had the circuit board replaced once. I can't imagine not having the front loaders at this point.
I think the water savings alone over it's projected 10-12 year life span would pay for the washer.
We've only used a front loader (all-in-one, actually). . .once.
The condo that we stayed at, in North Myrtle Beach had an LG 'all in one'.
What a POS!!!!!!!!!!!
This is NOT a typo. . . . SIX (6) HOURS to do ONE LOAD of clothes, and the clothes did not come out, dry!
When we put the clothes in, the door locked, and there was NO WAY to get the door to unlock, even if there was no water in the machine.
We talked to the manager of the condo, and he said that was 'normal'!

LOL, is it normal to get pissed and break the interlock?
Believe it or not, Tim, I really, really wanted to!!!!!
However. . . I had NO TOOLS with me. Not even a Leatherman!!!
(And I don't think that my wife would have approved if I had used her 'flip flops' as a prybar!!!)
