ohh no.......

so my truck has been spitting and sputtering lately so i popped the hood to lok at some things.. i didnt see any antifreeze in the overflow so i popped the top...

it was under a TON of pressure and felt like it sucked air for a while.. Then i looked in there and it was BONE DRY......

Could this only mean one thing? (head gaskets)

Im out of work right now and i really cant afford a $3K head gasket job... I have an SCT X3 from innovative (eric) and an MBRP turboback with gauges etc..

Any / imput help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

-Rob

It does not necessarily point to head gasket problems, the EGR cooler can be failing. What files have you been running on stock head bolts?

it could be anything from a change in weather to a leaking egr bypass hose, egr cooler, or ya head gaskets.
fill it up and see what happens.

when i tow or plow i run the tow agg tune
all daily driving is done on extreme street
i used the extreme race tune twice, once at the track and once at the dyno (both last summer)....

How exactly do i determine which one it is? What exactly is the warranty from Ford? is it 10yr 100,000 miles?

Thanks for the help

sputtering and smoking when cold is most commonly an injector type concern.
yep I would fill it up and see what happens.

ford gold coolant.
warranty is going to be 5/100 so if you have an 04 then most likly you are out unless you bought it late in 05 as a last year left over.

The engine warranty is 5 years / 100K miles so your probably past it.
If they found you running a tune they would probably not honor the warranty anyway....sorry.

With the tunes you are running the warranty could be 100 years and you will be denied. No offense but rightly so. Ford should not be responsible for your extreme mods, which they are the way you are using them.

I wouldnt consider a tune, exhaust, and gauges "extreme mods"... I do understand what you are getting at though...

Pick up some Valvoline Zerex G-05 from your local Napa store for about $11-15 bucks a gallon (don't buy the pre-mix 50/50)...buy three...then pick up 8 gallons on distilled water from your local food store...about $1 each...Pull you lower radiator hose and dump what's in the system (if nothing comes out, then you will need some more water)....then pour 4 gallons of distilled water into the degas bottle and check your levels, may require more depending on whether or not it was completely dry. Warm it up and check for leaks...look at your heads and down in the valley (where the egr cooler and 2" orange cooler hose is)...look for signs of leaking...also keep and eye on what's coming out of your tailpipe...smoke or steam...Drive it around the block to ensure it really warms up. You said you had gauges...if you have temps gauges then get your ECT/EOT up to normal operating 185-195*F If there are no leaks, then dump the radiator again, and top off with the Zerex G-05....should take around three gallons. Good luck.
