Transmission Problems

My friend has a 1997 Ford F250 powerstroke that the automatic transmission appears to have gone out?
It was working fine, never slipped or acted up at all.
He parked the truck and it was fine.
He got back in it to drive it and put it in drive and it is slipping really really bad. Will barely pull itself. He puts it in reverse and the same thing, barely will pull itself, slipping really bad.
I have never seen a transmission go out this fast. Usually they slip and act up, but this one was running great and went out with no symptoms of going out? Have you guys ever seen this and any ideas what it might be?
It was running fine and with no indications of problems went out after he parked it? Need Help with this one. Thanks

check the amout of fluid in the tranny. is the o/d "off" light flashing?

Start simple, check the tranny fluid! Smell, color, and amount.

Post the findings.

F250 Transmission

The O/D off light is flashing... What does this mean and what does it take to fix it.

The flashing OD light means a code has been stored that helps diagnose what's wrong. Most likely something mechanical broke inside the trans.
