I posted this question about my 1997 F250 7.3 with automatic tranny.
Transmission was working fine, never slipped or acted up at all.
He parked the truck and it was fine.
He got back in it to drive it and put it in drive and it is slipping really really bad. Will barely pull itself. He puts it in reverse and the same thing, barely will pull itself, slipping really bad.
I have never seen a transmission go out this fast. Usually they slip and act up, but this one was running great and went out with no symptoms of going out? Have you guys ever seen this and any ideas what it might be?
It was running fine and with no indications of problems went out after he parked it? Need Help with this one. Thanks
Update: The O/D off light is Flashing. What causes this and could this be my problem. One of you replied to my post asking if the O/D light was flashing. It is Flashing. Thanks guys.
were do you live maybe someone is near you and would help you out. You could try posting for scanner help in your chapter to see if someone can help you out
I don't have a scanner to read the codes. Any ideas?
I see you are in Larue County. Unfortunately I don't know anybody in that neck of the woods. I assume you checked the fluid level. Is there a good transmission shop around? Some of these chain tranny shops aren't very good. If you can get it to one, they would have a scanner to diagnose the problem.
Don't drive it like that, get your codes checked. Have a reputable tranny shop check the codes for you. I had three guys check mine with a low buck scanner, and nobody could retrive the codes. When the tranny started slipping, I took it to a trans shop I trust, and his Snap On scanner read that the trans needed a rebuild, he ran it in front of me. If it's slipping, you may need to rebuild, but hopefully it's something that can be fixed for not a lot of money.
I searched all over the net for about a month, and there doesn't seem to ba a magic pill for these trannies, and they are expensive.
Good luck.
I was affraid it would need a rebuild. I only used it on the farm. I have a 02 Ford dually I use everyday. If the tranny needs a rebuild, I am going to sell it as is. It is a 1997 F250, 7.3 Extended cab, 4x4, with like new tires and body and interior is in really good shape. Engine is really strong and everything else works fine. What is a truck like this worth with a bad transimission?
