Is there any reason you can't weld a piece of galvanized angle iron to a regular piece of steel with a stick welder. Using a standard 6013 1/8 x14" rod.

It'll stink a little, but no. Should be just fine. What is this for?
I am building a front end loader for my garden tractor and am using alot of what I have laying around. Thanks for the reply I assume there will be no strength issues??
Don't breath the smoke, it's pretty toxic. That rod should be ok as-is, but you'll get a lot less spatter and a much better weld if you sand the zinc off first.
Grinding the Zinc from where you want to weld will help greatly, and keep your head away from the fumes. Breathing the fumes will give you a nasty headache. Been there, done that................
It has the potential to contaminate the weld, although in reality most of it will burn off the surface first........but why chance it....grind it off as it will only take a half a second as its a very thin layer...
