I'm putting down linolium fllooring, and had to put down thin luan type plywood as sub flooring...(over the 3/4 sub)
What do I use to fil in between the plywood seams as filler?
Floor leveler? I didn't want to buy a whole large bag.
Would grout filler work? I picked up a small premixed amount but wasn't too sure.
No. No gaps under vinyl (true linoleum hasn't been sold for decades). Lauan is used because it is very stable and smooth, particularly indoors, where temp/humidity is relatively controlled. Gaps can telegraph through the flooring and look very ugly. Fill them with thinset and a 6" drywall knife. When it dries, take the 6" knife and scrape up any chunks. If you use a pneumatic stapler to put down the lauan, make sure you pound down any staples that are standing proud (or any fastener for that matter). It doesn't hurt to go over them with the thinset, too--you'll find any that are sticking up, and fill in all the rest.
Armstrong Makes a Patching-leveling-underlayment compound that is just what you need. You can buy it in three different sizes from about $18.00 down to about $5.00. I am a flooring specialist for Lowes and sell it every day, and also install when I'm not working for Lowes. It dryes quicker and smoother than thinset as well, you can mix up as little as you want so that you can do samll jobs. A 6" drywall knife is what i use to. Good luck.
What kind of flooring are you putting down, is it the no-glue type,if so make sure that you use the special double sided tape near the door ways and anywhere you will be moving appliances or furniture. It tends to bunch up and look like there are lumps in the floor.
