You will need to cut it out. I don't think its possible to get out with out cutting. If you get someone to push up on it after its disconnected from the bottom its a little easier to cut. Sawzall is your friend here. To get the new one in (hopefully its no bigger than 3 inch on top or they need major firewall modding) just cut the seam where the firewall and floor meet, bend the lip up with a big pry bar or something and it should work. Might have to bend a little more on the firewall but it shouldn't be too bad if like I said it is just 3 inch on top.

you gotta cut it out, i dont think jacking the cab up will help, then u need to bend the one metal bead up or cut it off to get the new DP in, I had a 2 piece DP from tymar so idk if you have a one piece that might be harder.

What they said... pretty much gotta cut the old one out. And the new one can't be bigger than 3" or you'll have to modify the firewall a lot to make it fit, or a 3" body lift. Also most DP's for our trucks are 2 piece, not 1 piece. Much easier to install.

they will come out if you pull the engine or the transmission, I have several of them laying around! if you pull the trans you will have to push the engine up and to the drivers side for it to come out. you just about need the truck on a lift to do it as it is long and has to be twisted as it comes out.
if the engine or tranny isn't coming out already chop it up with a sawzall you will need a good blade or 2

I used a porta power to get my 3.5 in. Use a block of wood against the engine - trans and bend away. I used a torch to get mine out but got very lucky I didn't start a fire. There was a picture on here not long ago of a guy who burned up his truck using a torch.

Ok thanks guys. My new DP is a one piece (he had a stick I have an auto) so I might have to make it into a two piece to get it in?

I would make the necessary firewall seam cuts and so forth first and try it. I would think you'd get it. If not I guess you can cut it and clamp or weld it back together. Just make sure you cut it down far enough where you can get at it to put it back together. Mine was a 2 piece from tymar too and was pretty easy.

I'm telling ya, a porta power will save you a lot of trouble. When I did mine I was worried about hurting something behind the firewall, I asked questions on here and was told there was nothing to hurt behind the firewall. If you don't know what it is, its like a pair of vice grips that works in the opposite direction. The jaws spread things out, like the jaws of life when they are trying to get a person out of a wreaked car. Rent one!!

I agree the porta power would be best. The only reason I didn't use one is I remembered when I went to get it that someone borrowed it and never gave it back. Made due with a sawzall, block of wood, and a 4 foot pry bar.

If you have tools and lend them out, not funny how many of them never come home.

They can remember where to borrow something, but never remember where to return it to.

GOOD ADVICE! KEEP IT STOCK DP!! My stock one is out...and cannot get the new 2 piece MBRP down pipe in...cant even get to the fire wall seam to make the cut. Unless the new down pipe adds 1,000hp doesnt seem worth it LOL..Just my 2 cents.
