Michigan has recently begun allowing private citizens to obtain a concealed carry permit,This allows us to carry a handgun on our person.
The licence is easy to obtain, however if you have had any run-ins with the law in the last 8 years you will not be elegible. There are also strict rules as to where you cannot carry ie:anywhere alcahol is served, any place that could hold over 2500 people(stadiums ect).
How many of you live in states that allow concealed carry? How many of our Michigan users have a permit?I have my pistol and will be taking the required gun safety courses and getting the permit soon.

I have a concealed permit here in South Dakota, basically same rules apply here.
You also cannot carry them in ANY federal building, that goes for anyone with a permit no matter where they live.
The main reason I got my permit was because I got dam tired of having to put my pistols in my tool box on my truck when I went shooting. A pistol is considered concealed in the cab of my truck here in
South Dakota, and I'm sure that's the case any where else.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Oct-02 AT 08:35 AM (EST)]Here in NY , concealed means on your person at all times.
Also we have to have FBI and Local Law background checks.
Cost us about $200 for all the paper work, finger printing, etc. (Been a while, it may be more or less now)
Also takes about 4 to 6 months for process.
Concealed permits here in NY are tougher to get, usually you have to show EXACTLY why you need to carry a gun, ie. business owner, armed gaurd, etc. If you want to target, they will only issue you a target permit, which means it must be kept in the case till you are at the site. I guess Pretty much ,same rules apply, also, we can't carry into NYC or any of it's burroughs...go figure the places you need it the most!!
I made the wife get hers also, because if you die, the state gets your guns, unless someone in your family has a permit.
I'd rather her to sell them than the state to get them.
Truck drivers are not allowed to carry firearms of any sort at anytime. As far as I know, that is nationwide. Why? Don't I have a right to protect my life, my cargo, and my truck?
Nope, you supposed to be defenseless, less chance of the crooks getting hurt that way.
The Loma Port in Colorado told me I should carry a 12 gauge with me, that was right after 9-11 and during the hoopla about tankers being the next target. I asked him if he would right that out and sign it, but he wouldn't.
i guess they are pretty easy to obtain here in minnesota if you are a good guy. i wouldnt know because i am just barely 20 years old, but when i am 21 i will try to register for a concealed carry permit ASAP
CCW is impossible to get in Hawaii unless the chief approves it. To my knowledge the ONLY person that has a CCW permit here is one of the chief's friends.
Here in Birmingham, all you need is $8.00 (I think it is $8.00) and a clean record. This is as I think it should be. Perhaps a basic firearms safety course would be nice, but then you get into arguments over the 2nd amendment, and infringing on rights. (By the way, I am convinced the 2nd amendment involves an INDIVIDUAL right and not a COLLECTIVE right). I like being able to get a CC permit as I do here in Alabama. In my heart, I believe those states that deny the right, or make it essentially impossible to obtain CCW permit, are acting in an unconstitutional manner.
I do not understand....... the constitutionality aspect nor the (liberal)mindset.
I have a Texas CHL. There is a 51% law in that you cant carry in a buisness that makes 51% or more of it's money from on site conumption of alcohol. You also cant carry on shcool grounds (parking lots dont count), fed buildings, law enforcment buildings, or anyplace that displays the correct sign. There's a lot of 'copy cat' signs store owners put in the window to discourage us, but if it's not the right sign, we're allowed legaly.
Getting it is easy, but time conuming. You have to take a 10-15 hr class that mostly just covers laws and such, pluss pay @ $100 for the class and fork over $140 to the state for the permit and an extensive back ground check.
Kind of a pain to go through for something that I consider to be a right, not a privlage. I believe that if I am qualified to buy a handgun I should automaticly be allowed to carry one consealed or otherwise with out going through all that. I agree with the laws of where I can and cant carry, just not how the permit is obtained.
I'm with BuiltToughF250 on this one. In 3 months I'll be 21 and hopefully well on my way towards aquiring my CCP. It's a rediculous pain to have to either carry the guns in the cab and the ammo in back or vice-versa just to go out shooting a couple hours. Also, I've heard enough horror stories and had 3 friends gang-beaten in the last couple of years. I know I feel safer in the woods with a rifle, and I expect the same in the city with a pistol. I always carry with me in addition to my Leatherman (is there a more useful tool in existence?) a knife that sees little duty or work as a tool and is primarily there for personal protection. Since the latest beating of a friend last february (see the "what the" thread) I've carried this knife and look forward to the day I can carry a gun.

california is a "May issue" state. That means that it's up to local law enforcement to decied if a person has a "need" to carry concealed. Our county sheriff will issue a permit to anyone wanting one without any problems as long as one takes and passes the required safty courses. Our city police dept. is not likly to issue a permit to the average Joe unless that person can show a "need". Here you are allowed open carry outside city limits. You must have a CCW permit to carry one conceled in a vehicle. You have to transport firearms locked in a container other than the glove box or locked in the trunk of a car if you have no permit. A person may carry a loaded firearm openly in a vehicle when on a hunting or fishing trip. A person may carry upon his or her person a loaded and concealed weapon in their home or on their property without a permit as long as it's their primary residence. But don't get yourself in trouble and just don't take my word for it as laws change and my memory aint what it use to be. To those in California reading this, go to the California dept. of Justice web page and do a search on the laws concerning firearms carry and ownership or talk to a lawyer.
I live in Kentucky, and am a CCW permit holder. In order to get it here, you have to take a basic firearm safety course ($75) and then pay $60 for a permit that lasts for 5 years. In the process of waiting for the permit, you have to pass a check performed by KSP in which they check for any violations that would prohibit you obtaining a permit.
