1. 40
2. 80
3.120
4. High Idle (1300 rpm)

I rarely use the 40 setting. I run 80 most of the time - and click it up on 120 every so often just to let the smoke roll

I got the custom high idle setting for the winter - since I canned my Exhaust Backpressure valve.

1. Stock

2. High Idle

3. 50

4. 75

5. 100

6. 140

Drive around on 75 usually. I have also found that you don't want to accidentally flip into high idle while in drive at an intersection. The brakes don't really hold it that well.

1. Stock

2. 40

3. 75

4. 100

5. 140

6. High idle (1200 rpm)

I've found that with my new injectors the 75 setting is a good bit stronger than the 120 setting on my old chip, so I leave it there most of the time.

1. 40

2. 80 Economy

3. 100 Race

120. Extreme

I run in 80 all the time unloaded. If loaded or towing I run in 40. Every once in a while someone in traffic needs to be schooled in the torque and smoke of a PSD so I run in one of the higher settings. But they're hard to keep the wheels from spinning and leave a large cloud of black smoke so I use them judiciously (How's that for a big word?)

I run in the 80 all the time unless towing as it is very fun when you want it to be and I am getting about 2 MPG better now.

2. Valet - Stock programming with governer at 70mph

3. Stock

4. 50 hp

5. 75 hp

6. 100 hp

I usually run in the 50hp setting as it is the most driveable. Use the same setting for towing as well.

1. 40 tow

2. 60 tow

3. 80 econo

4. 120 race

5. hi idle 1200 rpm

6. no start

I use the 80 any time I am on the highway and pulling less than 5K, 60 tow in town and pulling most everything, and 40 tow pulling my 15,000 5er in the mountains. I only use the 120 for fun or passing empty, but I love it!

stock (warm up, and everyone but me)
40 tow (around town)
80 econo (freeway)
120 race (rarely)
high idle (cold weather)
no start

My wife still thinks the chip's only purpose is theft prevention!

She has started liking my truck a little TOO much - if she found out that she could banish its off-idle sluggishness, she'd like it even more. THAT would be unacceptable!

Do you really need to "warm up" the truck in the stock setting? Does it hurt something if your don't?
I agree with leaving it in the stock setting when the wife drives it though! She wonders why it sounds different when I drive and can pass "slow" cars going 75 on the freeway with ease.

Thumbs up

1. Stock
2. 40 Tow (N.Y. City driving)
3. 60 Tow (N.Y. Long Island Suburbs)
4. 80 Econo (Highway)
5. 100 Performance (Street racing) Playing with 4 wheelers.
6. 120 Race (1/4 mile) Not done yet.
You can never have too many tunes.

I have to put a note in. Jody Tipton with his DP Tuner. Excellent tuning, Excellent gentleman. He will answer all of my questions no matter how many. I highly recommend. Thanks again Jody, Raymond

I don't believe you "need" to warm up the engine in the stock setting. However, as it puts less combustion pressure on cold compression rings and less pressure on bearings, I've always felt it would be beneficial to the engine to allow it to warm up on the milder setting. Since these engines co$t $o much money to rebuild/replace, I tend to be pretty ea$y on it until it warm$ up - then I don't mind working it hard becau$e that it what it wa$ built for.
