Brake Question

OK, I had a thread going but can't find it but, to me my brakes feel wimpy. Took truck in for oil change and tow haul switch repair and asked them to check brakes. they say they checked brakes and every thing is OK. So, I'm on the way home sitting at light. I push firmly on brake pedal and it goes to the floor. Got to the next light and tried again, same result. I get home call the dealer and the service rep tells me "yep, that's just how they work, it is normal". Now, I've never heard of such so could anyone on here either verify this to be true or at the next red light push yours firmly and see it goes to the floor. thank you one and all for the help.

mine is rock solid. load or no-load. Going to the floor has always been a case of air in the system somewhere.

I take it no brake light on...how about your message center? If you go thru everything does it say the brakes are ok?
Here is a TSB on the brakes:

Soft or increased brake pedal travel:
2008 F-SuperDuty trucks that exhibit the above brake pedal concernes should be tested for both a master cylinder by-pass condition, and a brake vibration condition (as per pinpoint test F in the service manual) prior to any parts being replaced. Broadcast Message 7340

Don't know if this helps or not, but I would bleed those brakes.

Senix, thank you, I was having a hard time believing it was the way the service reb said. I'll go back at him tomorrow. I'm gonna go now and see if I can find the TSB.

Hey Senix, does your truck have hydroboost brakes? Standard on
DRW but I think optional on SRW? Cause if I remember the conversation right the rep told me it was hydroboost brakes that would go to the floor like that. I've been all over the internet though and can't finds anything to make me think he's right.

I have the hydroboost. They do not go to the floor. Nice and stiff.

Senix's thought makes sense. I have hydroboost and my brakes are fine. You've got something going on there that the dealership is reluctant to deal with. Are you still under warranty? If it's warranty work, they might not want to deal with it because it doesn't make them $$$. Just a thought........ Anyway, I hope you get it fixed up. Pretty rig you have there!

Not a warranty problem, at least i don't think so, these guys have been great in the past. i called the service rep this morning and gave him all the info I have and he still insist the brakes are normal. He did agree to get the service manager into the truck for a second opinion. I'm gonna do that tuesday and if the SM tells me they are normal then I'm gonna insist we go across the street to the truck lot and see if a new one does it.

That is a good idea, drive the others on the lot.

Definitely should NOT go to the floor - there is an issue somewhere in the system.

Sounds like a bad/internal leaking master cylinder to me. If it were mine I would be changing that first. Or maybe second. I would first bleed the system, if that didn't cure it here comes the master cylinder.
