curious wheel question

OK my tuck came with the 18" wheels. After looking for some aftermarket wheels I ended up deciding on the factory 20"'s. I was about to buy a set on ebay that were off a '10 truck that were polished. Then I found another set off a '08 model that were chrome.
My queston is whats the deal with chrome or polished. Now I've been looking at other trucks and some are chrome and some are polished, but online it only list the 18" or 20" wheel? Were the chrome wheels of the chrome package or what? It's really not a big deal but just curious if some were chrome or polished. or maybe it was just a certian year that was ploished?

wheels

I just added a set of 20" Harley Wheels on my 2010 F350. They are polished and came off a 2007 model. The polished generally are easier to clean, than the chrome. I've had chrome on my 08 F250 and they would start building up pits/rust. I prefer the polished. This is just my opinion.

Personally I have the opposite opinion of chrome vs. polished.
I think polished are a pain in the rear to keep "polished" enough (for my liking) and I'd go with chrome ALL day long. Chrome is much easier to keep looking like chrome. Polished will dull fast on you, and it is a lot of work to get it back to a nice shine...and even then it doesn't shine like chrome.

Agreed that polished wheels are more work, you do have to polish them regularly, but if you put a couple coats of wax on them, they do tend to stay looking good a lot longer. I have had polished aftermarket wheels for 15 yrs, and they still look good, and I just bought another set. Chrome adds a lot of expense to an already expensive forged wheel, and I don't mind a little more maintenance.

However, OE polished wheels are generally clearcoated, thus giving them the low maintenance of chrome. I find that clearcoated wheels tend to last just as long or longer than chrome, chrome tends to flake off easier if it gets chipped....

Polished wheels. clearcoated or not, DO NOT shine like chrome, they have a "lighter" appearance, not as deep as chrome if you know what I mean!

Weldman hit the nail on the head. Therefore take maintenance into consideration and get what is best for you.

Are the factory chrome ones clearcoated as well?

I prefer the clearcoated units for ease of maintenance.

It's chrome OR clearcoated, one or the other!
