Popular science has finally archived all of their magazines. One of the articles is a flathead buildup written by a fellow named Jim Pauley. Interestingly enough it's titled something like - how a professional builds a MODERN V8.
If you'd like to read it, it will take some digging.
Go to popsci.com and keep paging through until you find their story about archiving. (It may be on page 2 or 3 by now). Click to open it up and then click on the 'visit the archives' .
Now -- in the search box type Jim Pauley -- be patient.
When the list comes up find February 1952 with some text about 'hop up'.
(It's actually in their January, but their headings seem to be off)
Click on the February issue -- and wait........
Eventially, it will come up with the issue and settle down.
Click on search, and it will let you scroll (slowly) through the issue.
After about 100 pages of old time ads and some pretty good old stories, you will find the flathead article.
Enjoy -- if it isn't past your bedtime by then!
Note -- the Google site can be touchy -- if it starts to error out, you may have to wait a day to try it again.
What a great find! I just spent 2 hours on that site, and don't regret one minute! Brought back a bunch of memories.............Saved to my favorites, will be going back again.
