Power steering fluid

I am upgrading my truck's steering system as well as adding a hydro boost too. also i am removing my factory cooler for the P/S system and adding a tranny cooler in its place. I know it might be overkill but makes me happy lol. My question is should i run what the factory says power steering fluid or should i use ATF in its place? thanks

I think I would go with the power steering fluid. What does the superdutys call for.
You might look at the specs on the power fluid and different hydraulic fluids and get some better prices in gallon jugs.

The correct fluid to run in that system is Ford Type-F auto trans fluid. I personally run Dex/Merc-III in mine so it's the same as what lives in the E4OD (one less bottle to carry around), I've done this with all my Ford and GM vehicles regardless of hydroboost or not and never had a problem with it, but some people say the Dex/Merc-III ATF makes their pumps a bit louder than when they run the Type-F ATF. Anything labeled as "power steering fluid" generally does not belong in your power steering system.

FWIW when i replaced my pump it specifically said on it to use P/S fluid only or it would void warranty. But originally the system was ATF along with pratically every other Ford I've ever worked on.

My superduty calls for ATF. IIRC, fully synthetic ATF.
