Similar. Dale's kit (Tymar) uses some factory Ford pieces (intake hose, battery tray), a piece of metal tubing, and a large clamp for the filter. PwerStroke99 has the setup, he should post some pics
Edit- You can buy the filter from Clay (about $30), a nice intake tube made out of 4" tubing (about $70) and then pick up a passenger side battery tray from a junkyard (I paid $10 for mine) and have essentially the same thing as the $250 or so Tymar kit. Or you can use the stock intake hose (just as functional but doesn't look as nice) and have a Tymar-esque setup on a really low budget.
My bad, looks like its $289 from Beans! And I was hoping you'd get off yer butt and post a pic of the thing installed in your truck.
I dont have a picture here of the intake. If u go to FDP, u can pull it off of there and post it here. FDP is blocked here at work.
Plus BDP does a substantial markup.
Anyway, to the other in this thread, thats the intake kit i have on my truck, i like it alot, i didnt notice my truck being any louder, i did notice my turbo whistle a litlle more.
Im sure Clay at RiffRaff can hook u up with a nice setup
WHat i also like about the TYMAR kit i have, it allowed me to get his coolant filter kit that mounted right to the Battery Tray also. I had the Dieselsite coolant filter kit and didnt like where it mounted up against the upper radiator hose.
There were some dyno charts posted years ago putting the 6637/Tymar up against the AFE Stage II. The AFE Stage II outperformed the 6637 slightly, but it was surmised by most (probably not Gene ) that if the dyno had the ability to simulate the truck moving an additional cold air effect would increase the difference between the two filters. I don't remember who it was. IIRC he was a big truck puller.
The oil analysis data does not show any advantage to either filter.
The price...you can see a difference there! The difference starts getting pretty small if you get the Tymar kit. That price is getting NUTS!!!
Cleaning is a PITA. A lot of guys are buying two filters and then you can swap them out.

I could bend a piece of metal and attach a coolant filter base just like what you have without needing the Tymar intake kit...

U could if u wanna go that route.
I chose to go this route while i installed the intake. Plus he had everything i needed to install it, without having to drive all around town scrounging up filter base, fittings, clamps, hoses, etc.
