thats just an example of the color of the truck that I know is a good buy. I think I am going with that one. Hopefully sooner than later

I think its called Dark Toreador Clearcoat Metallic

And the one I am looking at is Silver Clearcoat Metallic

I have to say its frustrating that OASIS reports don't got back past 10 years. Definitely changes the risk factor quite a bit. Are there other reports that I don't know about to fill the gap between Carfax generalizations and OASIS lack of coverage?

I appreciate all of your guys' responses.

Another Quick Question for you guys

I have had trouble figuring this out through my searches: I see that more of the 5.4 V8 and V10 have the 4.11 gears. So my question is do all 1999 - 2003 diesels come with 3.73 gears standard or could you choose?

Similar question with limited slip. the family truck, which i think i am going to buy hopefully this month is late 99 super/extended cab long bed 4x4. I tried using oasis reports to find this info but i am having no luck. I am guessing that also may be dependent on the gears. The current owner knows a lot, but not this detailed. Anyway to find out if I can't physically look under the truck?

Also, the vin: 1FTNX21F3XEA88698 if you happen to have vin any tools that i wouldn't have access to. The truck is bone stock.

Thanks for all of your help. I like to have all of my information straight

Looking at the pictures it looks like the clutch reservoir cap is on crooked and slightly empty and the brake reservoir looks low, brakes could need some attention, also 200,000 miles towing on the clutch, original?

Most F250 diesels came with 3.73s, Most F350 DRW came with 4.11s, but here is the kicker, you could order a short box F350 dually with 3.73s, and you could order 4.11s in SRW 250s and 350s.

Rear gears were an option. The reason you see so many with 3.73 on the diesel is we got more torque . We don't have to go with the 4.10 gears to get moving.

Mine started to slip around 212,000. The diesel stick drives a whole lot different than a gasser. You don't slip the clutch when you start going, even with a trailer on. Just let the pedal out slowly and you're moving. With the granny gear, I can get a 10,000 lb trailer rolling by just letting the clutch out and not touching the skinny pedal. Makes them last a whole lot longer that way.

Alright, so assuming I have 3.73's... I have been doing a ton of research on tires and there are a ton of threads about them. There are two things that I haven't found a definitive answer on.

1. do you have to reagear for 35's. I have seen talk about it for 37+ inches and not much for 35's

2. Are the stock wheels 6in. wide or 6.5? I see some people have put 315 mm (12.5 inch) and others don't want to go past 285 mm. I am definitely going with E rated tires. I am going to put these Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac

in either 285/75/16 or 315/75/16

I have eliminated the smaller trucks and am just talking about the supercab long bed late 1999.

Thanks guys!

You dont have to regear for 315's ( I am actually at the tire shop having a set put on right now) the stock rim width is 7", ( a Dually rim is 6.5") and yes you can run a 315 on it, but it is not recommended for towing. I found a set of 10" wide rims and am having my 315's put on them. 285s are roughly equal to a 33x11.50. 305s are roughly a 33.5X12.50, and 315s are 35X12.50. I have been towing and running 305's for the past 8 years and have been happy, but withthe other two inches of sidewall I am adding I felt better going with the wider rim.

This is the tire I am having put on now Fierce Tires | Attitude M/T#

Another Truck

Hey guys, this truck is in Alabama.

It looks like its in really good shape. It has the bed mounted ball, so obviously used for towing. There is a car fax report that looks ok. No evidence of mods.

I am not a fan of the mirrors, why does it have f150 mirrors?

Otherwise looks like a nice truck with relatively low mileage.
