You really need to look at the mfg date.. the badge won't always tell ya it is a early 99... My early 99 mfg date is 10/98.. and no badge on the fender..
very true...but the badge out there is a very good indication..
That guy is a RIP OFF! He dont know jack !@#$ about what he is selling.
I was goin to buy from him a couple of year ago. I was lookin at a Dodge. It was marked as a 2000 and I looked on the door sticker and it said early '99. OK so that was strike one.
Two. He metioned something about signing a piece of paper so he could adjust the price higher if need be. I walked away. I will not do any sort of business with some like that. The Dodge I looked at was marked on the window for 8,999. He wanted to push the price up to 10K. I told him to **** off took my paperwork that had all my info and skipped. I will not pay the extra for his arrogance and broke *** wallet.
3rd. He buys all trucks from the local Denver Auction. He knows nothing of anything with the history of the truck except for the CarFax he may or may not provide. He hides alot of issues with his vehicals. He is no good and I've herd nothing but bad from his past customers. I deal with alot of customers and sell them the parts to fix there trucks that they bought a month before hand.
Just my personal observation and prefferance. If you want a truck go to the wholesale place off of Dransfeldt called TSG Wholesale. I know the guys who work on those trucks and cars. Good guys and honest prices.
If I remove the airbox for a 6673 (i think) would that matter?
That would depend on how much dirt the engine and turbo have ingested. If it's ingested enough dirt to score the cylinder walls and affect compression, the answer is no, the 6637 won't help you one bit.

Thanks for the advice. I think all of the info you guys have given me is enough to make it probably not worth looking at. The dealer thing is enough to scare me along with the shady carfax report.
Keep on looking.....
Would you be willing to possibly help me out it find any more trucks that aren't so quickly dismissible?
Depending on when you go look at that truck, I could bring my AE and we could give it a good once over. Print out that checklist and send me a PM when you want to look at it..

I am feeling a little stupid, but i can't find the pm option. I was considering coming up there around lunch tomorrow to see it... Around 11:30 or 12.
From what i gather, that truck seems sort of rare, so I am having trouble passing up at least looking at it.
We are only here for advice. You are you own person and will make your own decision. I was only telling you from my point of view of that particular dealer. The mechanics I was talkin about that work for the TSG Wholesale work at Big O there in Parker. I know all of them there, and they work on my vehicals when I dont have the tools or the know how to finish the project.
The bed on that truck your lookin at will run you an easy 2k unless you know how to weld and grind a plate in there. Which if not Im sure that someone on here that is local can do it. If not. I know of a few people that can. If your still introsted in that particular truck and need some minor welding done or something of the sort I do know of a guy here in Parker that can do it for cheap. He is also a mechcanic for a local shop. Let me know if I can be of any help. I also maybe able to put you in contact with someone that can help you look for a vehical through a broker. I know him personally as well.
Please dont let my opinion deture you from buyin a truck. I have Tuesdays and Thursdays off usually. And I work morning or mid shifts at work. So let me know man and I'll dig up a few people and maybe help you on your journey on buying a 7.3L. Good Luck and welcome to the FTE. The best damned site on the internet!
nothing wrong with a early 99 just a little low on power to the 99.5-03 trucks...but you will want to look at the air box and turbo close....if its clean its the perfect mod truck....has the good rods and because its low on power..they havent been hurt...nothing in my truck is early 99 any more..every thing i changed is the same as every other guy changes to get where i am in there 99.5 - 03 truck as well.....
Not knockin the early 99 . You have made the best mods with your truck, Ron.
Lloyd you are doing best with stayig away from this truck and this dealer. Keep looking you will find a good one.

Just FYI, Dan, 1999 Dodges were only produced in 1998. Starting in late december of '98, they were ALL 2000s due to Cafe standards. Very short production year for 99s. Kind of like the 2010 mustang and the 2011 mustang which starts production in about 3 weeks.
