Ditto on the smooth tread. Folks with street tread have out performed me in the sand at Hatteras. When my BFG's wore down to near no tread, the were better in the sand. More tread, more trouble since they dig. You must air down for sure. I had to go down to 12-15 with my GM pickup a few years back and I have positive track in the rear. So can imagine an X in the sand with aggressive tread and no ls is going down.
I have not taken mine out there because I know I won't come out. Not at Hatteras! It is like air sand out there in some areas....can't even walk in it.
Here is a photo of my pissed off wife with my stuck X a few years ago...
Haha, that's great. Looks like my truck...
What year/engine/trim?
The icelandic tours are mostly over hard packed sand and rocks IIRC. That can support the enormous weight of the excursion. I would not tread on soft sand with it, personally. Remember we weigh, easily, 2-3k more than everyone else.
That photo was taken a few years ago in Ferindina beach. My wife is 100% Italian and just look at that face tells just how pissed at me she is... The tide was comming in fast and I was in trouble... 300.00 later the tow truck had me out.. Now I have 35's and an 16.5TI with a Pull Pal to get me out. X

Slug-O
The winch is a great thing to have but, I don't see any trees nearby to put a cable on. You would have to have a buddy with you or a good samaritan nearby.
