My 2008 Mariner (Mercury's version of the Escape) has had a problem that seems to be getting worse. It has A/C with the individual side controls and has considerable "ticking" in the central dash area. It started out as an occasional thing before it came up to temperature and I took it to the dealer. They couldn't identify the problem. Now it is nearly continual and quite annoying. I am taking it back to the dealer, but if anyone has any ideas I would welcome a heads up before I take it in.
Does the symptom change at all from internal recycled air flow as opposed to fresh air?
Just a question.
I'm not sure, but I don't think so. It does change with the difference between temperature setting and the temperature in the cabin: ie if I raise the temperature setting above or below the actual temperature by a significant amount the "ticking" stops. I think it is definitely related to a valve or damper in the system.
