I'm having a little trouble figuring out what you are re riveting. If you are restoring your went windows, about the only thing you need to rivet is the lock - if you took it off. Otherwise, you can use small sheet metal screws on the rest - try it.
There was another thread on vent windows last week. I posted some pictures of mine. If you can't find it, let me know and I will re post those!
You're not doing it right if it goes together without a problem. Everything, truck and non truck related, always takes more time and money than first estimated.
Glad to know there are others that are making mistakes; this riveting thing has gotten way bigger than it should be. The powder coat shop drilled out the rivets , to remove the shiney parts, so today I'm going "shopping" at a yard where there are a couple of 48-50 F1's for picking.

Later
OK so agan I ask "What rivets?" On what parts of the window?
Are you saying they drilled off the rivets holding on the upper pivot pin? If so, again, just use sheet metal screws instead of new rivets. If you are talking about the lock, then you are stuck with the rivets, but done gently, they should be very straightforward.
The rivets are on the pivot point on the glass frame that meets the bracket you pictured, thanks.
The original had rivets, have replaced almost all with the exception of the ones that hold on the bracket I broke.
I found replacement bracket today, at wrecker, along with additional vent frames. I'm still sourcing softer rivets, but thanks for your input. How's your trailer project coming along?
I'd try the sheet metal screws like I did if you can!
The trailer is coming right along. I bought about $400 worth of tail lights/lenses/brackets, tailgate hinges, license plate frame and bracket, and a set of chrome smoothie wheels like I have on the truck for another $150. I also decided to replace the front panel (see the rust out in the top rail in the picture below).
It's been raining like crazy here this year so I have been stalled the last few weekends.
I have an arc welder I need to pull out and practice on a bit. If I can learn how to weld decently, I'll finish the tongue (it's brass braze tacked in place for now). I never seemed to get the hang of arc welding, so I may call someone out to do it.
So, I'm working on it. I plan to have it done in two weeks.
Did some riveting on my vent window frames today, opted for pop-rivets; 1/8" X 1/4" then had to fine tune them with Mr. Dremel. Haven't broken any more hardware yet; was lucky enough to find spare vent frames yesterday.
Bathroom renovation is getting in the way of the truck restoration right now, but will get back at it hopefully; in two weeks. Wish fixing mistakes in truck assembly was as easy as drywall.

Hey Julie You cannot weld over that brass so be careful. Us old fogies used a lot of brazing a while back because we did not have all these fancy welders. I have used quite a bit of brazing but will never again unless there is no other way. Trailer is looking good and I like the concept .
