Mirror Replacement
I am considering these Amazon.com: 01 02 03 04 05 Ford Super Duty Power Tow Mirror Kit: Automotive I have 2 concerns.
1: I do NOT have power mirrors in the truck now. Does anyone know if there is power in the door I can tap into? This is a basic XL No PW/PL/PM lol Hell I don't even have a carpet.
2: Has anyone bought these, or other aftermarket replacements? If so, what do you think?

there are a couple posts here a while back with folks installing power tow mirrors, mostly the bigger 08 version.. search should find them. You need a bunch of wires, and to keep it small and easy to maneuver some have used a trailer light wire kit, as there are 4 wires bound together in the bundle, and 20 bucks gets you 20 ft of that wire.
the way the mirror motors work is the same as for windows, 2 wires.. 1 ground, 1 power.. then they reverse the signals ground becomes power, power becomes ground to go the opposite direction (reduces the total number of wires needed).
so you need 2 for up & down, 2 for in & out rotation, and 2 for extend/retract
oh, and lights, and heated if you like/need that function too.
(my 08's have all that).

What I was thinking of doing is get a switch out of the junkyard. or buying whatever switch I can find and mounting it to the door.
Here is my biggest problem..
I am color blind, so it's always a challenge to do this. If someone who has added power mirrors to an SD that did not have them before would like to jump in, it would be most appreciated. I am assuming that if I run a hot lead to the switch / switches on the door then use 4 wire harnesses to the mirrors individually I should be OK. But I am not positive. I also have questions about adding the directionals to the mirrors.
Thanks
Glenn

4 wires won't be enough tho.. need 2 for each direction.. up/down is 2, rotate is 2, extend/retract is 2, fold is 2, and blinker/parking is 2, and a solid ground.

When I installed power mirrors on my '01 XL, I was adding power windows and power door locks as well. I changed door panels and made up a new harness using salvaged junkyard harnesses inside the doors.
I hooked my power mirrors to the light green/yellow wire from connector C 218 by your right knee with the fuse panel cover under the steering column removed. That wire is fed by fuse #4 in the under-dash fuse panel, same source as stock mirrors. I used 18 gauge wire.
I found that I had to pull the parking brake loose (but not off) to get enough room to fish the wires out through the driver's doorpost.
