installed 2008 mirrors on my 2001 today (pics)

I got them from dfuser .. an FTE sponsor ... picked them up last night and installed them today. They are true Ford OEM - not bad for about $400 !! .. they do NOT do power fold and telescope, but I don't care about those features.

They bolt right up, wiring is pretty simple. 7 wires total per mirror - the stock 3 for power mirror adjustments, then ground, mirror heat, marker light, turn signal.

I talked to Bill at Dfuser and couldn't find a way around one problem - the left/right adjustment is backwards (out moves them in and vice versa). The drivers side has a yellow/blue/red and the pass it's yellow/purple/green. The yellow is the common to each motor. I tried a combination of switching wires around and couldnt get it to work right. If anyone has any ideas i'm open to that !

Otherwise the wiring is easy :
black - ground
black with white - mirror heat
brown - marker light
mint green (drivers) white (pass) turn signal.

Took me a total of 2 hours, but I spent a lot of time playing with the mirror direction on the first one.

Also, I've talked to Recon Accessories and they are coming out with a smoked marker lens, but it's about 3 months away ...

Here they are !

new mirror plug (i cut it off and wired straight)

Nice setup.... you have a lot of lights going on there, I like! Smoked lenses are cool all around, now you need them for the 08 mirrors! would look really cool...

Mikey like lots!! I second the vote that smoked lights on the mirror would complete the look.

So, you got one of those "Johnny Cash" vehicles. You know..."It's a 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 automobile". When they ask what year, you can't really tell them it's an 01 anymore!

Nice job, TNT. Saw an 08 up close and in person at an event this past weekend, and I don't think the 08 mirrors are my thing, but it's cool that Ford used the same base pattern so that they bolt right up in place of existing mirrors.

Im thinking about doing that mod. I like the fact that the mirrior is only 400 and that its heated and turn sig. My ques: What would you do if you truck doesnt come with heated and turn sig mirriors?

You just have to run wires for the heat and lights and turn signal from the truck's wiring to the mirrors. Tap into a key-on hot source somewhere for the heat, and a running light circuit for the lights, and the blinker circuit for the signals.

This thread should help:

Wow... I've seen one of the '08's at a fuel up recently, and noticed the turn/marker lights on the mirrors, but did not notice how much extra viewing area there is on the new ones. I'd love to have that kind of increased viewing, but the current cash is going into a new A/C compressor and accumulator on my wife's Suburban.
