This truck has been sitting for around a year, I just put a fresh battery in it and five gallons of premium gas. When attempting to start the truck all it will do is make a clicking sound near the battery. The battery terminals have been cleaned but I will try to clean them a bit better. Any ideas as to why this truck will not start? Also its a v10 with 206,000 miles.
You need to do some DIY diagnostic work .You can go to youtube and watch several good DIY videos.
Here are few suggestions;
- Try gently tapping starter motor with a hammer see if the bendix spring is binding . Tap few times and try to start with the key.
-Check to see if you have battery voltage at starter solenoid terminal (with the ignition key on start , 2nd person ? ) . If you have battery voltage at solenoid, it rules out few other possibilities (like neutral safety switch, ignition switch, starter relay, car theft system, etc. ) .
- Try to jump the starter terminals with a screwdriver , see if the starter is working (2 person ?). If it is working , then the chances are your solenoid is bad . Otherwise , starter is bad .
( You should have a starter relay near battery inside the engine compartment. If there is no 12V at solenoid terminal , test this starter relay, see if it is functioning ).
Good luck,
PS. Once you resolve the issue , try to use the truck at least once a week . Put 1/4 tank of fresh fuel frequently .
