I just got my 300 finished and running good but it is time for the transmission. I have been thinking of rebuilding it. It is a 3 speed manual, use to be on the tree but have it converted to floor. It is in a 1975 ford F100 shortbed 2wd. It is mostly a weekend cruise around truck, I have to run super and gas mileage is really not an issue. I was wondering what the best transmission would be for my set up. I want to keep it a manual. Maybe more of a cruising transmission. I would like to put a 4 speed in but, I think all the truck ones are granny gear first. I really dont know that much about the transmisssions and compatiability. I think my rear end is 3.23 or something of the such. any information would and could help thanks
"Cruising"? As in driving around the highschool, or driving long distances?

The 4 speed granny low truck transmissions.
The 4 speed OD transmissions used late '70s to mid '80s. (4th is OD)
The 5 speed OD Mazda transmission used '87 and up behind the 300 in half tons. (uh, requires hydraulic clutch...)
The 5 speed OD ZF HD trans used '87 and up in 3/4s and up. (same juice clutch issue)
The 4 speed toploader performance trans from the mid '60s to early '70s. First will be a little tall, (2.78) but the gears are close and they shift real purdy....
The 5 speed OD T5 trans from a V8 Mustang. Requires adaptor or different bell.
I guess cruising wasnt the right word, sorry. probably more for performance. I actually would like a taller first gear.The way I feel is my first gear right now is a little low, second is perfect and 3rd seems to tall. It works but I guess I thought I would ask on here before rebuilding the 3 speed. thanks
