300 transplant

I am transplanting an 87 4.9 into my 73 f100 on a 79 f250 4x4 frame. Will be using a 97 4r100 trans with its tcase. I want to keep EFI, but want to loose all the other $#@ on the 6. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have looked at old posts but haven't found much. What are you guys doing to loose all the excess junk on the 4.9?

lots of it

The smog stuff in particular, but also the clutter of wire, hoses...

I would like to run a simplified EFI. The manifold is fine, would like a simpler air filter. It may be simpler to just go to an offenhauser, carb and electronic distributor setup. like the one in Harte3's sig.

Has anyone done a cleaner looking EFI? I don't Painless has a wiring harness. What ECM to use? I have the one from the 87, but is there an under hood model?

update

Ok, I looked at the megasquirt and that may be an option. I am not looking for a race truck. I just want to take my very nice low mileage 2wd f100 and make it into what I really want.

I picked up a 1979 f250 4x4 in worse than poor condition and plan to use it as the base frame.
I will remove the existing cab and bed(it doesn't have a front clip).

Sand blast the frame and differentials... Paint and re-bush/reseal/rebuild everything necessary.

Do a carwash overhaul on the 4.9(only 77k miles on it) and make it look nice. mate it to the 4r100 trans and tcase and put it in the 79 frame.

Once all that is done, I will remove the body from my 73 frame and do the underneath freshening(repair/painting) and put it on the 79 frame. I have a79 grill and associated parts and will use that. I know I will need to figure out the speedometer issue and many more, but that's what keeps us going on this insanity isn't it. I will keep the seat from the 87 and have it re-done. Would like nice buckets and console, but I know i will run out of budget before I get there.

My final goal is to have a nice driver 79 look alike that has a more modern/drivable powertrane. I have the ecu's from the 97 and the 87 but like the megasquirt for the engine and I forgot who makes the transmission controller. I have never done the EFI thing so this is new. It would be easy to just do the offenhauser/450/electronic dist thing(I may still do that).

I was wanting to see if anyone else had done something similar. I am not a kid building a $900 truck(not bashing any kids, I appreciate them keeping the old trucks alive), but don't have deep pockets either. Just an average Joe wanting a nice truck.

You are going to need all the smog junk operating properly with the stock EFI controller system. The MS or a Weber Red Line system probably not.
