Hood not latching

Hood not latching
What would cause the hood not to latch completely shut. My dad seems to think that a hook is missing from the underside of the hood itself, but IDK if there is even supposed to be a hook to latch onto. All I know is it used to latch and it recently quit, and I am not sure why. What do you guys think?
