Hood latch replacement

Is there some way to get the nut off the end of the hood latch release cable (the thing that the cable pulls against the latch to make it work)? I need to replace the hood latch and I would hate to have to cut the cable and replace the whole thing.

Don't know what nut you're speaking of. As I recall the cable housing slides in a notch in the latch body and a "T" shaped lead piece is fed into the release arm.

I had a similar problem where the one of the springs broke, I also couldn't remove the cable from the housing so I simply took a new spring from a new assembly and replaced it.
