My rings are shot on my motor and I have an 84 460 out of a van, going into my 89 f350 2wd. I want to keep it EFI so I am swapping over the heads, etc...
Couple questions:
1. Will the oil pan from the 84 work in my chassis? - they look similar.
2. Do I use the flexplate from the 84 or the 89? Both are C6. I am worried about balance issues.
3. Is the crank bolt standard thread or reverse? mine is a booger to get off and I don't want to be cranking on it the wrong way.
4. What is the best way to clean out the manifold? Put it back together and seafoam it when it is running?
Just to be on the safe side I say swap the oil pan, use the flexplate and harmonic balancer off the 84 and take the manifold and have it hot tanked at a machine shop. I believe the crank bolt is reverse threads.
Just an update for anyone that cares.
Balancer and spacer are the exact same for the two years.
84 Van pan fits with flying colors and the van dipstick just needs to be bent slightly to clear the power steering pump.
Crank bolt is standard thread.
