Question IPR questions

Does anyone know if the readings on an IPR valve should "build" as the engine is cranking over, say from 14 to 20 to 30 and so on up to 84%? Or should it go directly from 14% to 84.7% upon cranking of the engine? Also, is it possible to have "good" readings from an IPR valve and at the same time have it leaking pressure off of the HPO system? This engine will not start.

Here are some of the readings I am getting.

1st crank cycle
ICP PSI ICP volts IPR%
548.96 .81 84.77
441.32 1.02 84.77
442.45 .87 84.77
324.05 .46 84.77

2nd crank cycle
311.02 .45 84.77
444.72 .84 84.77
374.47 .44 84.77
513.83 .49 84.77
524.59 .49 84.77
466.24 .99 84.77
401.66 .87 84.77
317.25 .34 84.77

During this period, injector timing was at 6.5 deg BTDC and the CMP/CKP sync was "yes" as well as the FICMsync was "yes"

EDIT: year is 2003 / RPM is 200 / batteries are fully charged / ICP was replaced as well as the pig tail connector. a "failed stator"???

High pressure oil leak is what I am going after. Given the fact that the engine died while driving and there were no injector codes or misfire codes, can I guess that it is not likely an HPO leak at the injectors, but more likely somewhere else? My hope would be that it will turn out to be a bad IPR valve.

The ipr will command fully open when cranking the engine. the way it reads may be different from scan tool to scan tool so some may show it as building ipr some may just show 14% then 84%.

So far as the ipr valve readings go. you have to understand what you are really looking at.
the IPR pid is a commanded pid its what the pcm is asking it to do. the ipr being only a 2 wire silenoid has noway to selfhash and report back its "real" position so all we know is what the pcm is asking it to do.
The physical output pid for the ipr is ICP. the icp pressure is controlled by the IPR silenoid more % of ipr = high icp reading.
There is noway to tell with scan tool data that the ipr is really functioning or not other then based on speculation of icp pressure.
you dont state what year engine you are playing with wich may or maynot help.
you dont list the rpm pid becase rpm below 150 rpm will result in low icp readings such as you have listed.
based apon the reading you have listed you could have a.....
set of failed or weak batteries,
a failed stater
a failed ipr
a failed icp and or sensor
a failed high pressure pump
a high pressure oil leak.
the fact sync and ficm sync say yes means the eninge see it self in time as well as the signal from the pcm is making it to the ficm and this rules out a base timing issue.

edit more info. you need 500 psi min to start the engine. you need 150 rpm to start, you need 9.5 volts min to start
