yeah, jasper also sells a propane set up for carbed engines. Not sure who made the dual fuel one used on extreme 4x4, but that is a good show. http://www.jasperengines.com/rock-crawler.php

Jasper has 4.9L, 5.0, and 5.8 propane powered engines for around 2000$. I bet for under 3000$ you could have a bullet proof, great working system. But, I still think dual fuel would be more handy really. The gov't is giving a 0.50$ tax credit for every mile traveled on alternative fuel! Very nice. Well, at least that is what I read out of it.. http://www.npga.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=1186
Faq on jasper alt. fuel engines: http://www.jasperengines.com/alterna...ngines-faq.php

Thanks for all the info and input guys, really helps

Cool thread. I'm in. I will be watching. I have read that turbos/propane work well together. Anyone know the cost of running a block heater? It would be a factor in the $ game if it matters. I like the "being different" and the "cool" factors which will always = MO $$$$. Especially if you are trying to hotrod an inline six. This thread may just help me realize one more of my dreams.

BTW if convenience/cost are a concern I think I have heard you could install a pig and purchase when cheap and fill 'er up when ever you need it.

Take Care

Yes, I believe you can even buy block heaters through lmc truck. Great company. There are quite a few companies you can buy block heaters through. Glad this thread has promoted so much interest

What's the inconvenience for you guys? Availability?

I'm getting a Sprint Gas system for my truck soon (351C) and it will be dual fuel with 2x 90L gas tanks. It will cost about $4k to install but there's a $1750 government rebate in place at the moment. With gas at $0.65/l and 95 Octane Petrol at about $1.20 the cost of it will not take long to recoup. It will use more gas then petrol, some say up to 30%, either way it ends up cheaper and is much cleaner for the engine.

If you have hardened seats to run on unleaded then you can run on gas as well. Most systems come with an oiling system that keeps the valves lubricated anyway. If you want to build an engine dedicated to gas (increased comp ratio) then you can regain some of the power loss of a dual fuel engine.

How does the government rebate work? I would bet your vehicle would have to have a cadilidic converter, and pass emissions test + an inspection? Things like that?? Im sure it would pay you back your money in the long run. I read on jasper it was .50$ per mile for the rebate. Thats pretty cool. Im not sure though. Yeah, you can get a universal block heater as tractor supply for 40$ that just replaces the freeze plug. I've also seen them on the top radiator hose, but I would perfer it on the freeze plug location. Not bad at all.

Cool. I may actually pick one up for next winter. I hate starting my truck in the cold it's a PITA till it warms up (oh the joys of carb.). I was debating between coolant heater or oil heater. or even both (but that seems like a waste of money and electric)

maybe you could put in a new thermostat? Preheaters are nice. I love them for any diesel. But, they are an energy hog They draw a good amount of electricity. But to me its more then worth it to unplug a vehicle, get in, hit the key, and instantly have heat, and engine power. Saves on wear too.
My 302, I had to put a new thermostat, all new coolant hoses, water pump, and now even when its 10 degs or colder it doesnt take long to push out heat at all.
