i have a buddy who has an 71 f250 4x4 on propane.460 14-1 compression on straight propane.the engine is built strictly for propane.he has a 200 liter(52 gal) tank on it and goes 650 miles between fills.
make sure you put hardened valve seats if you run propane.it burns hotter and you will burn the factory seats.
i have a fullsize jimmy on propane and even on -40 as long as the truck was plugged in it fired right up,better than gasoline.never had any issues with it.

4.3L v6?? Good engine. But -40! Wow so cool. Engine block heater like a diesel? Coolant circulation to warm the engine up? Really big help thanks. Like I said, I love these old trucks. It would be cool to do something different. It might be worth it to do the modification right by doing the whole engine. 14 to 1 comp, higher output ignition, and upgrade the valves. 900$ to 1500 would be not to bad. But, spending more to ensure you did it right would be awesome.

350 ci engine.and it was a block heater.once the vaperisor is hot no problem driving in cold weather(maybe 5-10 min warm up).the octane for propane is about 114,hence the high compression.
right, higher compression means higher octane fuel is required, or in this case propane. Oh, right 1/2 ton full size jimmy. The good jimmys. So, that is straight propane? I would think with that high of compression from what I know, if you were to run gasoline through that engine, you would have to run premium, or propably higher octane fuel for it to run well. sounds like a neat truck. Where are you that it is -40?
I live in Alberta Canada .to run on gas at that compression, you would have to run race gas.or aviation fuel.
Thats what I was thinking after I typed that question. 104 octane to 110 octane gasoline. How much snow does alberta have right now? We have packed snow and ice here in michigan
yeah, i'd believe it. Im looking forward to hopefully making a dual fuel truck that will work year round in the future. Cool project. I might just buy a propane block that a company like jasper sells, im not sure right now.
